People Power Washington opposes legislation being proposed by Councilmember Sara Nelson for hiring bonuses for SPD. Hiring bonuses will not solve SPD’s attrition or retention. The City is facing a crisis of housing shortage, has no mental health crisis response outside of law enforcement, and has too few resources devoted to prevention programs that are proven to be effective in keeping residents safer.
