Free Response Questions

  • Ideally nobody is harming any people or property. There is a systemic. economic, and societal environment that leads to conflict and harm among the public. This must be addressed with supports and services and viable alternate options for living, working and getting needs met. The issue can not just be solved through reaction to violations of law.

  • Fund and focus on community-level engagement and resources that would prevent and reduce crime before it happens.

  • In past, some envisioned the Taser as an option that would be less harmful than reliance on fatal weapons like guns, but in practice the taser is not fully effective. New technology is needed so that if there is a justifiable reason to detain someone, it can be done with nearly zero harm to the detainee or law enforcement officer. All people deserve due process and their day in court, so some tool or method to harmlessly immobilize, stun, anesthetize, or otherwise restrict a detainee without harm could greatly reduce or end the tragedy of a police encounter resulting in death or injury to someone who is being stopped by police.
