I support a style of public safety that doesn’t involve creating a police force that looks like the military.
My thoughts on creating a newer public safety force complete with psychologists, medical professionals and peace officers. If there is a mental health crisis, we bring in people specifically trained in that and leave the crime enforcement with the peace officers. Too often, police are ill- equipped to deal with psychological issues and could turn to violence if not trained properly. Reconfiguring policing and moving money to different functions of a public safety force.

I believe it will be important to try and create new laws that tend to move toward peace rather than fear. I truly believe that when people are trained to deal with situations peacefully rather than forcefully, we can police with care and hopefully have less death or violence on the street.

I would need to look at every situation or topic individually to determine any new ideas or reforms. I would lean on activists and current law enforcement to inform my decision making on this issue.
