Clifford Knopik: The government should not be exempt from prosecution. Law enforcement and Politicians should not be exempt from prosecution. The state should cover the law enforcements expenses for defense. People filing frivolous lawsuits should have to pay all fees for the law enforcement officers if they are not found guilty.

Free Response Questions

  • The law enforcement in the community should be funded enough to protect the citizens. The citizens should be free to organize and protect themselves as well. You can measure this through using quality data collection techniques and data analysis on crime, public sentiment, migration to and from communities, property values, etc.

  • The legislature should only require laws to be enforced by officers where needed – for protection of life and property. Do not ask them to use force regarding other laws that could be enforced through other mechanisms – such as warnings / fines / etc. through mail. Private actions by individuals which do not infringe on other people’s liberties and rights should be decriminalized. The law enforcement should be fully funded to accomplish the above. I think it would be beneficial that the law enforcement officers are members of the community they are policing so they have a vested interest in the community’s success.

  • Stop diverting funds to other programs and removing necessary resources from law enforcement. If police are going to be defunded – then the money being removed needs to be sent back to the citizens, not sent to some other program. Schools should have paid officers on regular patrol and / or stationed at any school desiring their protection.
